How to estimate a Playa del Carmen trip budget?
A Playa del Carmen trip budget mostly depends on three things: the length, the travel style (backpacker, comfort or premium) and how many guided day trips you take (Chichén Itzá, Tulum, Cozumel...). Add activities, an optional rental car and, if you include it, the flight to Cancún. Our calculator combines these items from real price ranges, in US dollars.
Backpacker
$45 to $65 / day
Comfort
$90 to $130 / day
Premium

Frequently asked questions
What budget should I plan for a Playa del Carmen trip?
Excluding the international flight, expect about $45 to $65 per day as a backpacker, $90 to $130 in comfort and $165 or more in premium (4 to 5-star hotels, all-inclusive). A 10-day stay often comes to $1,400 to $2,200 per person, flight included. Our calculator refines it to your choices.
Where do the calculator's figures come from?
The ranges come from our Playa del Carmen 2026 price index (readings compiled by our team): daily cost of living by style, guided day trips, activities, car rental and flights. They are indicative estimates, shown in US dollars and detailed in our guides.
Does the budget include the international flight?
Only if you tick the option. Round-trip fares to Cancún run about $300 to $600 per person from major US hubs such as Miami, Dallas, Houston, New York or Chicago, depending on the season. Cancún is only a 2 to 4-hour flight from most of the US, which is why it stays cheaper than a long-haul from Europe.
Do I need to rent a car in Playa del Carmen?
Not essential: the center is walkable and colectivos serve the whole coast for a couple of dollars. A car (about $40 to $60 per day, insurance included) makes sense to freely explore cenotes, Cobá or Bacalar.
